How successful do you think is the for sale by owner option as opposed to using a traditional Realtor to sell?

We are thinking of selling (if a job move comes together) and are contemplating using the for sale by owner rather than give so much of the profit away to realtors. This would be the 3rd house we sold so we kinda have an idea how it should go. I was just wondering if the traffic/referrals would still be the same. Does anyone have any experience doing a for sale by owner and how did it go.? I just wish the housing market would firm up soon! How successful do you think is the for sale by owner option as opposed to using a traditional Realtor to sell?
I dont recommend the company ';for sale by owner'; because they DO charge a commission and are more than willing to lien your house to collect it! If you feel capable of selling it yoursself find a flat rate listing realtor to get your property into the MLS. Also get a lock box so buyers agents can let themselves in if you are not planning on being there 24/7. Then spread the word on the various private internet realty sites and craigslist, ebay etc. You can use an attorney to review or prepare contracts. How successful do you think is the for sale by owner option as opposed to using a traditional Realtor to sell?
I found a good website which provides great for sale by owner tips and information. Buy My Place allows you to buy or sell your own home online, without spending a fortune on real estate agent fees.

For sale by owners generally do not get as much traffic, also a home sold using a Realtor will usually get $10,000 - $15,000 more than if sold directly by the owner. Just a bit of interesting info I thought you might like to have.
You certainly won't have the marketing tools to sell your home quickly. You will have to advertise on your own.
