Like others have said the puppy should be at least 8 weeks old. You might find one in a shelter but if you are set on a pure golden retriever it is not all the likely (worth a trip to look though). Otherwise I usually just suggest looking in the classified ads of the newspaper. The dogs there are not from champion bloodlines or anything like that but they usually come from loving homes and you get to meet the parents.
Try the golden retriever club website. make sure you are ready for a pup and know how to spot a good breeder. A good breeder won't let you have a pup until it is 8wks.

Do Not go to a pet store! Anyone selling a puppy or pet is not someone you want to be buying from. No matter what kind of breeder you may see or that they may claim to be.
Go to the Humane Society or ASPCAs website and search for the closest shelter to you. You can also google your county animal services.
If you are looking for a specific breed locate a breed rescue group.
Contact the golden retrevior parent club to ask for breeders in your area. Make sure to find a quality breeder using the link below. Remeber pups should stay with mom and littermates until at least 8 weeks old so they can get the full benefits of learning from mom and litter mates.
please adopt! there are so many puppies in dog shelters waiting to get homes. and their cheap depending on which shelter you go to. you might not find the exact breed you want but there are sooooo many dogs and puppies to choose from that im sure you'll find the right one for you.
It's illegal to release a pup to it's new home before it's at least 8 weeks old. Contact your local kennel club, I know that Orange County has many. Someone there can refer you to a reputable breeder, or why not adopt one from your local shelter/rescue?
You should only purchase a pet from a breeder. You can check the American Kennel Association.
But you should go to a shelter. Many people give up there pets for various reasons. You may save a dog from a death sentence. They do have puppies and pure breeds.

No reputable breeder sells online OR allows a pup to go at under eight weeks of age. And a well bred dog will cost well around $800 - but they will come with lifetime genetic guarantees, a genetically sound background, and so forth.

Go to an animal shelter and you can get a dog and save a life. they are the same as any other dog but they had a hard start and might die if they are in there longer then two weeks.
